REGULATIONS


1. THE AIM OF THE COMPETITION

The cultural association CULTIVARTE-Quarteto de Clarinetes de Lisboa and the INATEL FOUNDATION are proud to announce the 2 nd LISBON INTERNATIONAL CLARINET COMPETITION. This competition appears as a result of the development of the clarinet in Portugal and aims to continue this work by stimulating young clarinetists to achieve their goals in music.

The competition will be held in Lisbon from 25 to 28 March 2013, and subject to the following rules:


2. COMPETITORS

The competition is open to clarinetists of any nationality no older than 35 years by March 25, 2013.

Completed forms must be sent by post to:

Applications must be received by January 25, 2013. Completed forms should be sent along with the following documents:

a) A copy of the applicant's I.D. card or passport.


b) Two recent passport photos with the applicant's name on the back.


c) A "curriculum vitae" giving the essentials of training, teachers, professional experience and prizes obtained.


d) The Program to be played at the semifinal and final rounds including one copy of the chosen works, for exclusive use by the jury. It is mandatory to indicate the “opus number” of each work.


e) High quality DVD recording of the candidate playing the compulsory works of the eliminatory round. The recording  must be unedited. The clarinetist must be filmed from the front, at a 5 metres distance.

f) An application fee of 120 € paid by PayPal or Bank Transfer to the following account:

The closing date for applications will be strictly enforced. Any applications arriving late will not be accepted. If any documents are missing, the organization reserves the right to not accept the application. The application fee will never be returned.

 
3 COMPETITOR´S OBLIGATIONS

Once admitted to the competition, all competitors are obliged to take part in all the events at the dates and times prescribed by the Jury. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification.

All competitors must supply their own instruments and music. The competition will take place in Lisbon. At the end of each round all candidates must attend the announcement of the results. The results of the eliminatory round (DVD recording) will be sent to the applicants by email. The applicants admitted to the semifinal round will be informed by email of the time and place of this round.

 
4. ACCOMODATION FOR COMPETITORS

Accommodation for competitors and accompanists (should they choose to bring one) is their own responsibility and is at their own expense.

Upon request, the organization “CULTIVARTE” can provide information about hotels in the area of the competition.

 
5. JURY

The competition jury will be composed of eminent international musicians, chosen by CULTIVARTE. The full list of the members of the Jury will be published on www.lisbonclarinetcompetition.org before the start of the competition.

The jury has the right to interrupt a performance if the members consider that they have heard enough to make a fair evaluation.

After the final round, the prize winners will be announced. The jury reserves the right to withhold any prize if it feels justified to do so.

At every stage of the competition, the Jury's decision will be final. The Jury also has the right to make a decision on any point not covered by the rules.

 
6. COMPETITION PROGRAM

Each competitor will be called once only for each round. Missing the call will lead to automatic disqualification.

 
6.1 COMPETITION STAGES:

ELIMINATORY ROUND: (DVD recording sent until January 25):

The jury will mark the video performances of the following compulsory works:

All rounds are open to the public, and the results will be announced at the end of each round.

 
7.  PROGRAM

The choice of works in the semifinal round is free. The Jury may choose to hear only part of the program prepared by the candidate.

 
8. ORDER OF PLAY

The draw determines the order of presentation of the competitors, which lasts throughout the competition.

 
9. ACCOMPANISTS AND REHEARSALS

A piano accompanist will be available to play for every candidate free of charge. Competitors may also bring their own pianist at their own expense.

Rehearsals with the official accompanists will take place on March 23 and 24. Competitors waiting for his/her performance will warm up in appropriate site.

Each finalist will be allowed to rehearse 1 hour with piano the day before the final round. 

 
10. PRIZES

1st Prize   

-           Professional model clarinet

-          1000 €

-          A concert with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra during the 2013/14 season (the expenses with travelling and hotel will be covered by CULTIVARTE up to the maximum value of 500 €)

2nd Prize

-          Professional model clarinet

-          500 €

3rd Prize

-          Professional model clarinet

 
11. RIGHT TO BROADCAST

CULTIVARTE reserves the right to broadcast the performance during the competition on radio or television. They also reserve the right to use any recordings in any way whatsoever, at any time in the future.

12. RESPONSIBILITY

The competition organisers can not be held responsible for any accidents or injuries suffered by any competitor during the competition.
